I was a complete foodie this weekend at the Rust Belt Market and brought home some awesome hand rolled truffles from Pete’s Chocolate Co, salted caramel apple and lemon-lavender slices from Rock City Pies and strawberry basil jam from Gunder Goods.
Now back to the om-noming.
It’s here! The Detroit Urban Craft Fair reaches it’s 6th year of offering up the best in handmade-goodness this weekend at the Masonic Temple. I’ll be there along with over 80 other local & national vendors offering you a plethora of amazing things to buy for the cool people in your life or your own greedy ass!

Check out local and independent boutiques and galleries, or handmade marketplaces online. The money you spend stays away from those soul sucking mega-corporations everyone hates so much and you get something uber-rad to stuff under your loved ones Christmas tree/Hanukkah bush.

Want to see something pretty darn rad open in the city of Detroit? Since your answer is obviously HELL YEAH, take a gander at the 10 semi-finalists for Hatch Detroit’s $50,000 grant to open a new business within the city.
LIFT’s goal is to create a vibrant 800 - 1200 sq ft. space in midtown Detroit that contains a cafe, lounge area and retail space called Bubble Love.
Bubble Love would feature a range of bubble teas, Asian snacks, sodas, juice drinks and smoothies. Guests would be able to kick back and relax, work, or study in the lounge area with access to free Wi-Fi.
The retail area would carry the latest designer toys from Kidrobot, ThreeA, Tokidoki and more in addition to apparel from Detroit Manufacturing, art books & magazines, unique handmade items and limited edition prints.
Bubble Love would also host rotating exhibits focusing on pop surreal and lowbrow artists.

Had a most excellent weekend at the Rust Belt Market. The city of Ferndale was bursting with energy as Woodward Ave. was taken over for the annual, love it or hate it, Dream Cruise. Met a lot of cool new folks, saw a lot of friendly familiar faces, consumed some tasty beverages at The WAB and had some grand adventures in Detroit. Even saw a motherfuckin’ dragon!
Went and checked out the opening of the annual outsider art extravaganza Unfiltered at the Funhouse Gallery in Detroit this weekend. Now in its 6th year the show was a bevy of raw art from 25 different painters, illustrators and sculptors. Show runs until October 1st.
