It’s Fall! Time for the weather to grow colder, the leaves to change and for me to consume as many different pumpkin flavored things as possible. I’m serious. If you taste like a pumpkin get in my mouth immediately. This goes double for any beer or coffee type beverage.
To usher in this most awesome of seasons Heather Hansma has curated a Dia de los Muertos show at Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, MI. Miss Hansma has brought over 35 artists together to celebrate the dead, including: Love and a Sandwich, Kat Brunnegraff, Ben Butcher, Happycloud Thunderhead, Cody Schibi, myself and many more. Check out a full list of participating artists here.
The exhibit opens October 7th with a reception from 7-10pm and will remain on display until November 5th.

Happy Serum | Now through June 26th

Happy Serum, a show featuring new work from Crystal Mielcarek, Heather Hansma and myself opened Friday at the Starkweather Arts Center in downtown Romeo, MI. The craft beer flowed, awesome sushi and gumbo were consumed and goodtimes-a-plenty were had as we held the main exhibit in the lower gallery and featured a mix of old and newer work in the upper gallery.

A huge thanks to those that made the trek out for the opening! If you were unable to attend there’s still plenty of time to check it out. Happy Serum will remain on display until June 26th.
To purchase available artwork, or for more information on the exhibit please visit the Starkweather Arts Center website.

More photos of the artwork and reception can be found here.
Happy Serum opens this week at Starkweather
Heather Hansma, Crystal Mielcarek and I are looking to get you hooked on the good stuff this Friday when Happy Serum opens at Starkweather Arts Center in Romeo, MI.

“My approach to Happy Serum was simply to create a bunch of art that makes me happy. That’s it. No deep existential subtext about the state of the human psyche in a time of financial and political upheaval. Just bunnies, beer and Doug Benson.”
-Heather Hansma

“I created a selection of work that immediately draws the viewer in with bright colors and fun characters, injecting them right away with happy. However, once they take a closer look at the work they may begin to notice that many times, no matter how joyful it appears, everything has a dark side.”
- Crystal Mielcarek

“The world has become a wasteland of strip malls, big box stores and Applebees. In order to combat the wave of depression gripping its citizens the government, along with several top corporate investors, enter into a project to produce the drug HS42 (Happy Serum). As more and more citizens become heavy HS42 users the serum rises in price and its horrendous side effects are revealed! A small resistance group rises up against the use of the drug claiming it is a form of mind control…. but how long can independent thought hold out against the masses?”
